PUDUCHERRY, 3 August 2026: Deepagam – Don Bosco Catechetical Centre for Faith Formation and Value Education conducted a school animation programme for the students and teachers of St. Dominic Savio Government-Aided High School, Jeevanathapuram, Puducherry. The animation team consisted of Rev. Fr. Jesudoss, SDB, Mrs. Pauline Rose and Mr. Joseph Bernard. Around 170 students from Classes I to X participated in the programme.
The morning sessions for students focused on personal growth, values and healthy relationships. In the session titled “Building a Strong Self,” the students were guided to accept themselves, recognise their talents, embrace their past and develop gratitude for the experiences that shape their future.
The call to become the salt, light and yeast of the world was creatively communicated through an energetic dance session based on the song, “Uppu Kaaram, Pulippu Maavu, Oliyaai Vaazha Azhaippu!” The activity encouraged the children to become a positive and transforming presence wherever they live and study.
During the session on “Healing Relationships,” the students were guided through reflections to recognise and heal hurts arising from relationships within their families and friendship circles. They were encouraged to let go of painful experiences, forgive others and renew their relationships with love.
The final session, “How to Be a Good Friend,” helped the students understand the qualities and responsibilities of genuine friendship. As a group activity, each friendship circle identified and resolved to practise two healthy habits together.
Rev. Fr. Jesudoss, SDB, animated the teachers on the principles and methods of Salesian accompaniment. He highlighted the vital role of teachers in accompanying children amid the many personal, social and digital challenges and distractions they face today.
The teachers also participated in group discussions centred on three questions:
• What are the major challenges faced by students in schools today?
• How can teachers accompany students more effectively and remain available to them?
• What are the obstacles to effective accompaniment in schools?
The programme invited the students to grow in self-acceptance, forgiveness, friendship and responsible living. It also renewed the teachers’ commitment to be caring, approachable and attentive companions in the lives of the young.
